Installation

This page takes you from installing the app to reviews on your storefront. It takes about ten minutes, most of it spent waiting for an import.

Install the app

Install FiveOh Reviews on Metaobjects from the Shopify App Store. During the installation, FiveOh creates its metaobject and metafield definitions in your store. You do not need to set anything up in Shopify yourself.

A tour of the app

You find FiveOh in your Shopify admin under Apps. Its menu has five pages:

PageWhat you do there
ReviewsThe dashboard. At the top, a card for every review source, with Add platform to connect a new one and buttons to sync it. Below, the reviews table, where you publish, hide, reply to and feature reviews.
App BlocksEvery storefront block, each with Open in Theme Editor to place it in your theme.
Additional attributesRating questions like fit or quality, shown with the reviews.
SettingsModeration rules, the review request email, reward discount codes and AI summaries.
SubscriptionYour plan.

Add your reviews

Next, bring in the reviews you already have. How depends on where they are today:

  1. Judge.me, Loox or the Shop app: nothing to do. These apps store their reviews in Shopify already, and FiveOh picks them up on its own; a card for the source appears on the dashboard.
  2. REVIEWS.io or Trustpilot: click Add platform on the dashboard, choose the source and enter its API credentials. Then run a sync.
  3. A CSV file from any other app: on the dashboard’s File Import card, click Import file! and upload it. The card also offers an example CSV.

The Collecting reviews overview compares the sources. Every imported review becomes a product_review metaobject in your store.

Once the import has finished, FiveOh calculates the ratings, review lists and summaries for every product. On large catalogues this runs in the background for a few minutes.

Starting from scratch? Skip the import and collect your own reviews: turn on the post-purchase email, place the Post Purchase Form block that the email links to, and add the Review Form to your product pages.

Enable FiveOh Core

App embeds are switches in the Theme Editor that load an app’s code on every page of your store, without a visible block. FiveOh Core is one: it loads the small script behind load more, sorting, filtering and the review forms, and adds your reviews to the product’s structured data for search engines.

On the App Blocks page, click Open in Theme Editor next to FiveOh Core. The Theme Editor opens with the embed turned on; click Save. See FiveOh Core.

Place your first blocks

On the App Blocks page, Open in Theme Editor opens the right template and adds the block for you. Move it where you want it and click Save. A good first setup:

  1. Product Rating near the product title.
  2. Review List further down the product page.
  3. Product Card Ratings for stars in collection grids. Turn on its app embed, then add a small snippet to your theme’s product card. That step needs a few lines of theme code, so you may want your developer for it.

Every block works with its defaults, so you can adjust colors and texts later.

Check your storefront

Open a product that has reviews. You should see the rating and the review list. To confirm the reviews are rendered on the server, open the page source and search for a sentence from one of the reviews: it is already in the HTML.

If something is missing, see Troubleshooting.

Next steps

Before going further, we recommend reading How FiveOh works. It explains where the data lives, which makes every other page easier to follow.

How you continue depends on how you want to use FiveOh.

Using the app blocks

You design your storefront in the Theme Editor and want reviews to fit in without code. Continue with:

  1. Displaying reviews: every block and where it fits.
  2. Customising blocks: colors, texts in every language, and custom CSS.
  3. Managing reviews: replies, featured reviews and translations.

Building in your theme or headless

You are a developer or an agency and want reviews inside your own sections, snippets or a headless storefront. Continue with:

  1. Developers: reading FiveOh data in Liquid, through the Storefront API and in customer accounts.
  2. The Examples on every block page: copy-paste starting points with a preview.
  3. Reference: every metafield, JSON value and HTML attribute you can rely on.
